What to do for your family during a health crisis?

What to do for your family during a health crisis?
Nutritional Supplements can help improve your bodies immune system’s ability to fight off infection and kill an active infection. Yes, your body has the system in place, you will just need to reinforce your bodies natural defense by fueling it.

If you have an active illness and the doctor told you to stay home and isolated because that’s all they can do right now. I would be doing everything I could to boost my chances of my own immune system kicking in.  You gotta take care of yourself!

Let’s talk about a frightening symptom for many and get you thinking differently.
Fever is the first sign your body is working! Fevers are good! Don’t lower it with Ibuprofen or Tylenol.  Keep it and let it work. It’s important to stay hydrated and keep your electrolyte balance.   You can do this by adding an electrolyte powder, coconut water or just by adding unrefined real sea salt to a glass of water.  I would also take a tepid bath and maybe put some epson salt in with my bath.  This is your body’s innate ability to fight off infection, let it do its job!

Note: Acetaminophen depletes a crucial antioxidant-glutathione. Not what you want when you’re trying to fight a virus. Ibuprofen should be avoided as they say it may enhance the infectious capabilities of the virus, also causes problems for the kidneys and GI Tract.  Again, not needed when you’re trying to fight an infection.(1)
Few things I also recommend during a fever so it doesn’t get dangerously high (over 104F) would be to add Calcium lactate. This supplement will help the body get the extra calcium it needs to kick the immune response in quickly. Taking two tablets, every 30mins, until fever breaks has worked for many and is my go too if a fever is rising high.  Staying on this supplement for a few weeks is a great way to supply the calcium.  Also, you can add a drop peppermint oil on a wet wash cloth to make the feverish person comfortable.

Additional nutritional supplements:
  • Sesame seed oil is a great Vitamin E supplement that supports the WBC response. I have many patients on this while their immune system is working hard.  It’s from Standard Process.
  • Vitamin C should be taken 5-10,000mg/day if you’re actively sick. If you can take more do it. Stop if you get loose stools or just lower amount. Prevention is key though, I take a Vitamin C that has 1300mg along with Zinc, Manganese, Potassium. My kids take a chewable with about 600mg daily.  If your actively sick and need a high dose then I would recommend a buffered powder form.
  • Vitamin D3K2 is a fat soluble vitamin and should be taken daily. I recommend 5-10,000IU for maintenance and additional increase if your actively sick. Get a good source of this vitamin if you want to absorb it.  I use Energetix D3K2 Spray for both adults and children. Easy to use and it’s in a MCT oil base.  Your immune system will thank you!

Essential oils are also on my front lines of keeping healthy and stress-free.  My family adds them to our arsenal for emotional and physical support.  Many of these oils are put into our diffusers during the day and night hours.  We also apply this oils to the bottoms of our feet in the morning and before bed.  Using essential oils either aromatically, topically or internally increases your body’s innate ability to keep on adapting and healing. Here are a few of our favorites!

Thieves, Cinnamon Bark, Purification, Lemon, Orange, Immupower, Deep Relief, Stress Away, Lavender, Valor, Tranquil, Frankincense, RC or Eucalyptus oils.

Nutrition
Eat a healthy diet FREE OF REFINED SUGAR! Refined Sugar paralyzes the ability of the white blood cells to perform their duties for hours. Your walls are down and your body can’t fight like it should!

Stay Hydrated! Drink clean filtered water not tap municipal water.  How much? Take your body weight in pounds and divide by 2 and the resultant number is the minimum amount of water in ounces to drink per day.  Drink more if your exercising or have a fever! I will add lemon oil or electrolytes to my water when I’m having a hard time getting it in. This too helps your body absorb the water into the cells and not just taking bathroom breaks.

7 Ways to Build Immunity

7 Ways to Build Immunity

First of all what is immunity?  Stated by the New Oxford American Dictionary, “The ability of an organism to resist a particular infection or toxin by the action of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells.”

Okay, now let's go over some basics we all can do to build immunity.

Positivity / Quality of our thoughts
Our mind is the most powerful healing organ in the body.  Proverbs 23:7 King James Version (KJV). 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. This is true in our overall health and wellness, also!
Let’s start our mornings out with positive affirmations, prayer and visualization.

Did you know? You are in charge of the story you’re telling yourself.  I recently had to tell myself this and my days became brighter.  Surround yourself with positive people and avoid negative influences as much as possible.  It’s okay to get down but don’t stay there! I say this with love!!!

Movement
Exercise supports our overall wellbeing, our mental health and helps our blood and lymphatic flow.  “A stagnant pond grows algae and other organisms; as a flowing stream stays fresh and healthy.”  I repeat this to my patients, frequently.

Movement is life.  Keep the body in a healthy rhyme and frequency by intentionally moving every day!  It doesn’t have to be a 3 mile run or a cross-fit workout, both which are wonderful. You just need to get 20-30 mins of walking, stretching, weights or just challenging yourself to try new things.  Be adventurous!

Sleep
This is where the repair happens. We heal at night when our mind shuts off and our immune system kicks into ninja mode.  It’s important to get to bed at a decent time.  Our family will try to get to bed by 10pm most nights.  This helps us wake refreshed and stay well physically and mentally.

How much sleep do you need?  Most of us need 8 hours to feel rested and some can go less. If you’re struggling with sleep, try adding some melatonin, taking a warm bath with epson salt and lavender, disconnecting from screen time 2 hours before and turning on a diffuser with some lavender or peace & calming essential oil in it.  If you notice you’re waking up every night at the same time.  Then, I would suggest looking at the Chinese sleep chart.  Stress on certain organs can interrupt your sleep.

Now, schedule a goodnight's sleep into your daily routine.

Nutrition
Food fuels our body.  What you eat, you become, well its kinda true.  When you eat processed food that has no life, no enzymes, no hydration, your body will fall into dis-ease. We should eat foods that are full of life, with enzymes, antioxidants, water, minerals and vitamins, if we want to be full of life too!  Fresh fruits, vegetables, grass-fed meats, farm fresh eggs have more nutrition and will benefit your bodies health and foundational wellness ability to fight infections.

Do you get the idea? Buy food that spoils and eat it!

Supplementation
Using high quality supplementation to support our body’s high stress and demands.  Read the labels!  Know the source of what you’re buying.  If you buy cheap you will get cheap.

Warning... too many people are buying synthetic, toxic, low quality supplements and expecting to gain health.  Many will suffer from a toxic liver, bowel, weakened thyroid, foggy brain the longer they stay on them. So avoid these ingredients: Colors, Preservatives, Corn oil, Soybean oil, Sucralose, GMO’s, BHT and many more.

Supplements to add to build immunity: Pre-Probiotics, Vitamin D3/K2, Vitamin C, Omega3, Trace minerals, Good Protein Powders (amino acids like L-Glutamine), B vitamins with methyl-folate/B12, Cur-cumin, L-Lysine, the list can go one depending on your current situation.

Elimination of toxins
What’s in your drinking water, your food, your personal care products? The average woman puts over 500 different synthetic chemicals on her body daily which is the largest organ on your body. Ouch!!!  How about your environment at home, work or school?  What toxic chemicals are being used daily around you and leaving a toxic burden on your liver, your brain, your immune system and your generations after you?

We are living in a world surrounded by unnecessary toxic chemicals and we are unknowingly getting poisoned every day.   Watch the documentary "Stink" and you will get a glimpse into the industry.

So what can you do? Start reading labels if you don't know what an ingredient is, then google it.  Drink purified water, use cleaners that don't warn you not to use around children or pets.  Find companies that care about you and the environment and a promise to not use toxic chemicals. I know of a great company that I can trust and this gives me peace.  It's important when I'm bringing items into my home, that they are safe to use on my kids and around my pets.

Chiropractic
Nature needs no help, just no interference ”~BJ Palmer.
The body is self healing and regulating.  Chiropractic care removes stress on the nervous system which them reduces stress on the immune system and the body can reach homeostasis much easier.  Fighting a foreign invader with a compromised nervous system / immune system is where sickness moves in and stays too long. Get a chiropractic adjustment to strengthen your body's innate ability to fight off infections quickly.

“How do you make a dimmed light bright again? Remove the interference. How do you increase health in a dis-eased person? The same way!”  ~B.J Palmer

“Prevention is always better than cure.” ~ Desiderius Erasmus
