Nutritional Supplements can help improve your bodies immune system’s ability to fight off infection and kill an active infection. Yes, your body has the system in place, you will just need to reinforce your bodies natural defense by fueling it.
If you have an active illness and the doctor told you to stay home and isolated because that’s all they can do right now. I would be doing everything I could to boost my chances of my own immune system kicking in. You gotta take care of yourself!
Let’s talk about a frightening symptom for many and get you thinking differently.
Fever is the first sign your body is working! Fevers are good! Don’t lower it with Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Keep it and let it work. It’s important to stay hydrated and keep your electrolyte balance. You can do this by adding an electrolyte powder, coconut water or just by adding unrefined real sea salt to a glass of water. I would also take a tepid bath and maybe put some epson salt in with my bath. This is your body’s innate ability to fight off infection, let it do its job!
Note: Acetaminophen depletes a crucial antioxidant-glutathione. Not what you want when you’re trying to fight a virus. Ibuprofen should be avoided as they say it may enhance the infectious capabilities of the virus, also causes problems for the kidneys and GI Tract. Again, not needed when you’re trying to fight an infection.(1)
Few things I also recommend during a fever so it doesn’t get dangerously high (over 104F) would be to add Calcium lactate. This supplement will help the body get the extra calcium it needs to kick the immune response in quickly. Taking two tablets, every 30mins, until fever breaks has worked for many and is my go too if a fever is rising high. Staying on this supplement for a few weeks is a great way to supply the calcium. Also, you can add a drop peppermint oil on a wet wash cloth to make the feverish person comfortable.
Additional nutritional supplements:
- Sesame seed oil is a great Vitamin E supplement that supports the WBC response. I have many patients on this while their immune system is working hard. It’s from Standard Process.
- Vitamin C should be taken 5-10,000mg/day if you’re actively sick. If you can take more do it. Stop if you get loose stools or just lower amount. Prevention is key though, I take a Vitamin C that has 1300mg along with Zinc, Manganese, Potassium. My kids take a chewable with about 600mg daily. If your actively sick and need a high dose then I would recommend a buffered powder form.
- Vitamin D3K2 is a fat soluble vitamin and should be taken daily. I recommend 5-10,000IU for maintenance and additional increase if your actively sick. Get a good source of this vitamin if you want to absorb it. I use Energetix D3K2 Spray for both adults and children. Easy to use and it’s in a MCT oil base. Your immune system will thank you!
Essential oils are also on my front lines of keeping healthy and stress-free. My family adds them to our arsenal for emotional and physical support. Many of these oils are put into our diffusers during the day and night hours. We also apply this oils to the bottoms of our feet in the morning and before bed. Using essential oils either aromatically, topically or internally increases your body’s innate ability to keep on adapting and healing. Here are a few of our favorites!
Thieves, Cinnamon Bark, Purification, Lemon, Orange, Immupower, Deep Relief, Stress Away, Lavender, Valor, Tranquil, Frankincense, RC or Eucalyptus oils.
Nutrition
Eat a healthy diet FREE OF REFINED SUGAR! Refined Sugar paralyzes the ability of the white blood cells to perform their duties for hours. Your walls are down and your body can’t fight like it should!
Stay Hydrated! Drink clean filtered water not tap municipal water. How much? Take your body weight in pounds and divide by 2 and the resultant number is the minimum amount of water in ounces to drink per day. Drink more if your exercising or have a fever! I will add lemon oil or electrolytes to my water when I’m having a hard time getting it in. This too helps your body absorb the water into the cells and not just taking bathroom breaks.
